1999 Grand Estates Chardonnay

Chardonnay lots were harvested from key vineyard sites and held separately for vinification and aging. At the winery, lots were crushed, destemmed and pressed gently to separate the juice from the solids. Those with intense, concentrated flavors were fermented in new French and American oak barrels, while lots showing elegant, refined characteristics were fermented in stainless steel. All Chardonnay lots underwent malolactic fermentation in the barrel then aged sur lie for 10 months. During this time the wine was stirred regularly to enhance complexity and mouthfeel. The final blend is lush with apple, pear, butterscotch and coconut. It is supple and mouth filling with a long, lingering aftertaste.
