2004 Two Vines Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes
“This Two Vines Sauvignon Blanc accents aromas of slight green apple and hints of cut grass. The bright fruit flavors end with a crisp, refreshing finish.”-Ray Einberger, Winemaker
Growing Season
- Hot, dry weather from bud break to mid-August created ideal flavor maturity and prompted the earliest harvest start, beginning August 16.
- Harvesting slowed in mid-September due to cool temperatures and intermittent light rain.
- Grapes reached ideal physiologic maturity during the cool period.
- Warm, dry weather held from early October through harvest’s end with grape flavors and structural elements in harmony.
Vineyards
- Premium vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley are sources for Columbia Crest’s Sauvignon Blanc.
- Columbia Valley vineyards are seated east of the Cascade Mountain range. Up to 14,000 feet high, the mountains effectively block eastward-moving wet weather systems from the Pacific Ocean.
- Just 6 to 8 inches of rainfall reach the growing region annually. Vineyards are 100% drip irrigation.
- The soils have low fertility and low water-holding capacity, allowing precise control of vine growth patterns.
- Vines are planted north to south on south and southeast facing slopes.
Vinification
- Grapes were pressed, cold-settled, and racked off the solids into temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
- Inoculation with several yeast strains to enhance the aromatics and finish began the 20-30 day cool fermentation.
- The master blend was created at bottling.
